LF: Movie Clip

http://www.movieclips.com/

This is the final fight from rocky 6; we found the clip on Movieclips.com which is a great website providing clips similar to what we are trying to achieve.
Although I don’t think this is the best fight scene we have researched I do really like a couple of effects they use throughout.
First the use of colour through the black and white scenes I feel is really effective especially with rich colours such as the gold and red. Obviously we can not create the same cuts as they have in this scene, but we could change the gloves to red in our final fighting scene.
Furthermore it also includes flashbacks of his previous experiences in the ring and the people that are closest to him. We are including a similar theme in our opening with the funeral of the protagonist’s father.

JI:Shoot Evaluation 25/3/2011

During this shoot we went into our main location of the boxing gym at Sevenoaks Amateur Boxing Club, a location which from when we first visited we thought was ideal with the appropriate iconography to give an authentic, rich feel to our opening. On arrival we realised there were quite a few other people training there at the time of our filming which we would have to work around or intergrate into our opening to give it a sense of realism. The training scenes, which we are going to put together to make a montage, went really well, and we managed to get a range of frame shots including; POV, MS and MLS. The transition idea of slamming the door through to a punch on the punch bag, was something which we didn't know if it would work that effectively, however after filming the footage, we feel it will work well and look very effective.

LF: Shoot Evaluation 23/3/11

In general our first shoot was a great success. We managed to film the funeral scene in the bedroom with slightly dimmed lights adding a slightly different atmosphere to the shot. We also took some still shots of other photos and are intending of creating an effect in which the photos appear to be laid on top of one another.

Furthermore we also filmed the running scene outside which we felt was successful, in order to get the right lighting we waited for around 6pm when the sun was setting because we didn’t want to film in broad daylight. However this meant the time period in we had to film in between light and dark was small, nonetheless we managed to film all our footage and we are very happy with the results. On Friday the 25th we are planning on filming the rest of the montage at the boxing gym.

Group: Font

We have chosen to use the font Edwardian Script IT for our main title.

We feel the classic look of the writing will engage well with the black and white footage we are using, giving it a rich, authentic feel. Also the flow of the font can represent the rythmn and flow presented in boxing, and emphasise the beauty of the sport. Furthermore the golden font emphasises the prerogative of the main protaganist boxer, and gives him a dominant figure within the film.

Group Process: Storyboarding Edit

After a long thought over our storyboarding, we decided to make a few alterations, as we felt it came across to much like a film trailer rather than an opening, with no real flowing storyline, and more of a montage of the film.

We have now decided to begin with the build up to the fight, and then bring the storyline back to where it all began, his dad's funeral. We feel this will give the audience an insight into the rest of the film, but then bring it back to where it all started from the narrative along with the voice over.

Group Process: Storyboarding

Here are some still shots of our final product of our storyboarding process. We used this storyboard to cut into a animatic on the Premiere software, to give us a visual idea of how long it would be and the sound we could use.

Feedback

Well done, you have caught up on work despite absences. To achieve a L4, you must demonstrate excellence in use of ICT - think about using some of your recce photos to customise the blog, take more care in visually illustrating posts, highlighting key terms. In other words, think aobut web layout of your work.

Group Process: Storyboarding

We have now finished drawing up our storyboard. We are happy with the shots we have drawn up and feel they will give us sufficient footage for our film opening. From storyboarding it has giving us a great feel for how our shots are going to look and it has also given us a few more key ideas to introduce into our footage.

A new idea we have now established is representing different time frames in our footage with the use of a voice over from the protagonist's mind and a change of mise-en-scene. We are going to show the day of the protagonist's (Golden boy) dads funeral, which we feel will give an extra insight to the audience of the boy's emotion and distress he has been through, and give our audience a feel for where the story began.

GROUP:Film Pitch Final

View more presentations or Upload your own.

This is our final pitch that we presented to our class to get green lighted. The presentation went very well and everyone responded in a positive manner and said that they felt as though we had thought a lot about our concept and it was an interesting idea. We were very pleased with the feedback.

Furthermore slides 7,8 and 9 show the results from our audience research, originally we were going to call our opening “hands of stone” after the boxer Roberto Duran however after completing are audience research golden boy (Oscar de la Hoya’s nickname) was the most popular choice. Therefore we decided to name the opening Golden Boy.

We decided that we would use big name stars to try and attract more viewers o the cinema and because most boxing films follow quite basic story lines we decided to use Paramount to distribute our film in industrial cinemas like other films such as The Fighter.

GROUP: Boxing Gym Recce with photos

After a very successful recce to the boxing gym we have decided that is will be the location of our film opening. Here are some useful shots that we are thinking of using in the film opening.

This is a shot of the boxer wearing a hooded jacket hitting the bad. The boxer is out of focus however the ring ropes are in focus. We could use this throughout are production of the boxer training hiding his identity.

This is a low angle shot of the boxer making him look more intimidating again hiding his identity. It also shows the far corner of the ring in which we could position a trainer. Furthermore there are aspects of iconography with the boxing bags in the background.

This is another shot through the ropes however the rope is now in the line of the shot, when it comes to filming our opening there will be two boxers in the ring, however the identity of the main protagonist is still hidden due to his arm covering up his face.

This is a POV shot of which would be the antagonist getting hit by the protagonist, I feel with the use of handy cam when we shoot the opening it will create a really successful effect.

Again this is a POV shot which we are really looking forward to using in our production, this technique is used in other successful films such as The Fighter which recently won two Oscars, Ali and million dollar baby, it is a extremely recognisable part of boxing and would engage the audience brilliantly.

This is a shot of the protagonist in the corner, in our opening we can include a trainer in the shot, furthermore the characters identity is still not revealed.

This is an over the shoulder shot of the protagonist, in our opening we could have another boxer facing the protagonist taking his punches allowing the audience to feel involved

Props

This shot shows the ring and a couple of heavy bags in the background.

Preliminary Task

This is our preliminary task footage which we shot. The idea was to get a grasp of achieving a clip using continuity editing. Overall we think the clip went well, as we get the idea of our boxing theme into the sequence.

The only fault we had of the footage is the transition between walking out of the door to the pan up of the character. We realised this didn't show continous action, and adds a jump, however this is something we have evaluated and can make sure we won't make the same mistake in our opening sequence.
